Devoteam strategy day

The harbor provided the picturesque backdrop as the Danish branch of the IT consultancy company Devoteam held a strategy day for 250 employees in a Copenhagen bathed in the last rays of the summer sun.

There's no place like home

When we make toasts and pat each other on the back in celebration at ALIVE, we embrace the narrative that the whole world is our playground, and that borders are meant to be crossed. But even though we have never been more present in various parts of the globe through events and business trips than we are now, there is still a thrill when we get to unfold ourselves on our home turf, amidst Copenhagen’s verdigris spires and the blue waves of the harbor.

Such was the task set for us by the Danish branch of the IT consultancy company Devoteam in the summer of 2024, when they asked us to arrange a strategy day for 250 employees based in the capital.

Under the internal working title “Copenhagen as the Backdrop,” we booked two of the city’s largest cultural bastions, engaged a Balkan band, a jazz trio, and a DJ, ordered 300 logo cakes, secured some of Copenhagen’s iconic harbor boats, and crossed our fingers for favorable weather.

Sunshine from start to finish

Fortunately, the weather gods were on our side when the second-to-last summer day of the year dawned, and the 250 participants from Devoteam arrived at the pink balloon in Nyhavn. From there, they boarded the chartered harbor boats, which transported the entire group to Refshaleøen and the meeting rooms at Halvandet. Here, the company held the professional part of the event, featuring various presentations and group work in the adjacent breakout rooms.

After the professional portion of the day was completed, participants gathered in the afternoon at a nearby beach bar, where we had arranged for drinks and music in the sand, before the entire group was ferried the short distance to the Opera House. There, a jazz trio welcomed them in the sunshine in front of Henning Larsen’s iconic harbor mastodon.

Inside the Opera House’s foyer, tables were set for a three-course dinner, which was only briefly interrupted when an enthusiastic Balkan band got everyone dancing between the main course and dessert. As the sun finally decided to set over Copenhagen, the Devoteam party continued in the Opera House—now on the first-floor balcony, where a DJ got the dance floor moving, well-supported by a well-stocked bar.

Copenhagen. You are everything we have.

At ALIVE, we are almost as in love with the capital as Carl Emil Petersen and the rest of the guys from the now-defunct Ulige Numre. Whether we’re utilizing the harbor to help Maersk host a green festival or supporting the City Team on away games around the world, we do it with a love for our beautiful, vibrant capital.
